NIA probes Bijoyganj blast death, mystery over body found 10–12 km away deepens

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe into the Bijoyganj blast case that led to the death of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, with a key focus on how the victim’s body was found nearly 10–12 kilometres away from the explosion site. The development has intensified suspicions of a larger conspiracy behind the incident.

The blast occurred about two weeks ago in South Bamunia village in Bhangar, where multiple explosions were reported while bombs were allegedly being assembled. Masiur Kazi, identified as a TMC booth president, died in the explosion. However, his burnt and mutilated body was later discovered in Haroa, dumped near a fishery, raising serious questions about the sequence of events.

Investigators suspect that after the explosion, efforts were made to remove and dispose of the body to conceal evidence. The fact that the blast site and the recovery location fall under different policing jurisdictions has further complicated the case and added to concerns about possible coordination in moving the body.

While earlier police findings suggested that Kazi died during bomb-making activities and led to the arrest of an ambulance driver, the NIA is now re-examining all aspects of the case. An FIR is being registered, and the agency is expected to present its findings before a special court as it continues to investigate how the body was transported such a significant distance.
