Tension gripped a locality in Malda district after a Bangladeshi national was detained by residents in the Harishchandrapur area, raising fresh concerns over border security. The individual was caught roaming under suspicious circumstances in Dubapara on Wednesday and later handed over to the police.
According to locals, villagers grew suspicious of the man’s movements and detained him before tying him to a tree and informing authorities. Police from Habibpur Police Station reached the spot promptly and took him into custody for questioning. During interrogation, he was identified as Mohammad Momin Noor Hussain, a resident of the Kotwali polce station area in Bangladesh.
The incident has triggered concerns as the location where he was found lies close to the India-Bangladesh border and near a Border Outpost in Harishchandrapur. Residents have raised questions about how a foreign national managed to enter and move within such a sensitive area without detection.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances of his entry and his intentions. Officials are also examining possible lapses in surveillance along the border as part of the ongoing probe.
