BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
A burglary in Kolkata’s Beliaghata area has taken an unusual turn after a thief broke into a house and fled with a cooking gas cylinder, leaving behind greater concern for fuel shortage than stolen valuables. The incident, reported from Chaulpatti Road, has triggered anxiety among residents amid growing difficulty in accessing domestic gas cylinders.
According to police, the theft took place late at night after the family had gone to sleep. In the morning, the housewife discovered the kitchen door open, utensils scattered, and several items missing. However, the most alarming discovery was the disappearance of the gas cylinder. The intruder had also entered another room, opened a cupboard, and taken some silver jewellery, but it was the loss of the cylinder that caused the most distress.
Family members rushed to the local police station to file a complaint, urging authorities to recover the cylinder at the earliest. They emphasized that obtaining the gas cylinder had been extremely difficult and that they had already been rationing its use. Losing it now could leave them struggling for nearly a month, with uncertainty over whether a replacement would be issued without returning the stolen cylinder.
Police have begun scanning CCTV footage from the area and suspect that more than one person may have been involved. Initial findings suggest that the accused carried the cylinder on his shoulder while fleeing. Investigators believe the theft may be linked to rising demand in the black market, where domestic cylinders are reportedly sold to small eateries at higher prices. Efforts are underway to trace the accused and recover the stolen property.
