Prices of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), commonly known as jet fuel, have increased in the national capital, though the rise is significantly lower than initially reported. Indian Oil Corporation clarified that the price increase is around 8.5%, addressing confusion created by earlier reports.
Initial reports had suggested that ATF prices in New Delhi had more than doubled to over ₹2 lakh per kilolitre. However, the oil major clarified that the current price of jet fuel stands at approximately ₹1.04 lakh per kilolitre after the latest revision. The misunderstanding occurred amid sharp volatility in global energy markets triggered by escalating tensions in West Asia. The ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States has disrupted supply chains and pushed crude oil prices higher.
Despite the corrected figures, the rise in ATF prices continues to pose challenges for airlines. Aviation fuel remains one of the largest operational costs for carriers, and even moderate increases can significantly impact airline expenses and ticket pricing.
