The Enforcement Directorate has once again questioned Debasish Kumar in connection with an alleged illegal land and construction probe, triggering fresh political buzz in South Kolkata ahead of the Assembly elections. Kumar appeared before the agency on Friday following a second summons, days after his initial questioning earlier this week.
The investigation stems from a recent raid conducted by the agency at the office of a construction company in South Kolkata, where allegations of illegal land grabbing and unauthorised construction activities surfaced. Officials are examining claims that the company operated with alleged support from sections of the local administration, enabling multiple projects to be carried out in violation of norms.
According to investigators, certain areas linked to Debasish Kumar have come under scrutiny as part of the probe. The agency is seeking to establish whether there was any direct or indirect involvement or association with the activities under investigation. During the earlier round of questioning, Kumar recorded his statement, but has now been called again as the probe deepens.
The development has added a new dimension to the political atmosphere in the region, with the timing of the probe drawing attention ahead of elections. Officials have also seized documents, financial records and transaction details during the raid, which are expected to play a key role in identifying individuals and entities potentially linked to the alleged irregularities.
