Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s convoy was allegedly blocked and a member of his security team assaulted in Kerala’s Malappuram district, triggering concern during the ongoing election campaign. The incident occurred near the Thiruvalli Chellithodu bridge as the Thiruvananthapuram MP was travelling to Wandoor for a campaign event.
According to details, a group of men intercepted the convoy, preventing it from moving forward. When a security staff member stepped out to intervene, he was reportedly attacked. Visuals from the scene showed a tense situation, with individuals crowding around the vehicle and raising slogans, while Tharoor remained seated inside.
Confirming the incident, Tharoor later stated that his security guard had been attacked but was safe, while he himself remained unharmed. He added that despite the disruption, the convoy continued and he completed two scheduled campaign events, asserting that the programme remained unaffected.
Following a complaint by the security personnel, local police registered a case and detained three individuals in connection with the incident. Two vehicles were also seized, and a non-bailable case has been filed against one of the accused. Police officials indicated that the matter is under investigation, with no confirmed political angle at this stage.
The incident comes at a crucial time as Kerala heads toward single-phase polling, intensifying focus on campaign security and law and order. While the situation was quickly brought under control, the episode has raised fresh concerns over safety during high-profile political movements.
