Metro services in Kolkata were disrupted at the start of the week after a suicide attempt was reported on the Blue Line at Mahatma Gandhi Metro Station. The incident occurred around 11:30 AM during peak office hours, when a person jumped onto the tracks as a Tollygunge-bound train was entering the platform.
Following the incident, authorities immediately initiated emergency protocols, leading to partial suspension of train services on both up and down lines. Metro operations were restricted to limited stretches between Dakshineswar and Dum Dum, and from Kavi Subhash to Esplanade, significantly affecting normal movement across the corridor.
The disruption left thousands of daily commuters stranded during one of the busiest times of the day. With trains halted and services curtailed, passengers faced delays and overcrowding at multiple stations. The sudden nature of the incident added to confusion among commuters relying on the metro for office travel.
Power supply to the tracks was cut off to facilitate rescue operations, and the individual was safely removed and taken to a hospital. Services were gradually restored after 12 PM once the situation was brought under control. The incident follows a similar case reported on the same line just days earlier, highlighting recurring challenges in managing emergencies on the network.
