AJUP chief Humayun Kabir booked after viral sting video claims Rs 1,000-crore political deal with BJP

West Bengal Police have registered a case against Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) chief Humayun Kabir following the circulation of a viral sting video that allegedly shows him referring to a Rs 1,000-crore arrangement with the Bharatiya Janata Party. The video has triggered a political controversy in the state ahead of the Assembly elections, with allegations of attempts to influence and polarise voters.

The First Information Report was filed at Suri police station in Birbhum district based on a complaint by Haji Mohammad Parvez Siddiqui, national president of the Rashtriya Alpasankhyak Arakshan Morcha. The complaint alleges conspiracy, promotion of communal disharmony, and attempts to disturb public order in the run-up to the elections. Police officials have confirmed that the matter is under verification.

According to the complaint, the viral sting operation allegedly captures Kabir discussing a Rs 1,000-crore financial arrangement intended to influence Muslim voters in the state’s political environment. The complainant has urged strict action from the Election Commission and senior police officials, calling for immediate arrest over alleged attempts to create unrest. The controversy has also led to political reactions, including criticism from rival parties.

Kabir has rejected all allegations, calling the viral clip “AI-generated” and claiming it is part of a conspiracy to defame him during the election season. Meanwhile, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has withdrawn support from his party, stating it cannot associate with such claims. The party has now decided to contest the elections independently as political tensions continue to rise ahead of polling.
