West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday launched a sharp political attack on the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a rally in Suri, Birbhum, accusing them of misleading people and failing to deliver on key promises such as employment. She urged voters not to be influenced by money or false assurances, warning that accepting such inducements could later lead to legal trouble.
Targeting the Centre’s outreach initiatives, Mamata criticised ‘Mann Ki Baat’, alleging that it is being used to influence young minds rather than address real issues. She questioned the BJP’s record on job creation, asking what had happened to the promise of generating two crore jobs annually. She further claimed that when her government attempts to fill vacancies, legal hurdles are created to block recruitment.
The Chief Minister also accused the BJP and its ideological affiliates of spreading division, stating that their politics is based on “poisoning people’s minds.” She criticised alleged attempts to interfere in the state’s electoral process, calling certain initiatives a “conspiracy to remove voters” and urging people to reject such tactics decisively.
Highlighting governance and development, Mamata pointed to welfare schemes implemented by her government, claiming that West Bengal has rolled out over 100 social initiatives. She also announced a ₹32,000 crore investment in the Deocha Pachami project, which she said would generate employment for around two lakh people, positioning it as a major development push for the region.
Continuing her campaign trail, Mamata emphasised her personal connection with Birbhum and reiterated her party’s commitment to delivering on promises. She contrasted her government’s record with what she described as “false election promises” by the BJP, urging voters to remain cautious and make informed decisions in the upcoming Assembly elections.
