Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is set to campaign in West Bengal in support of Mamata Banerjee ahead of the Assembly elections, marking a significant political push by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. Soren will be in the state from April 18 to April 20, addressing multiple rallies to strengthen the All India Trinamool Congress campaign during the crucial final stretch before the first phase of polling.
According to party plans, Soren will focus primarily on tribal-dominated constituencies, where the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha traditionally holds influence. His campaign is expected to target regions with significant tribal populations, aiming to consolidate support in favour of the Trinamool Congress. Senior JMM leaders are also likely to join the campaign, indicating a coordinated effort to mobilise voters in these key segments.
The move comes as part of a broader political strategy to counter the expansion of the BJP in West Bengal. While JMM has an organisational presence in the state, it is not contesting the elections and has extended full support to the Trinamool Congress. There are also indications that Kalpana Soren may join the campaign, although her schedule has not yet been officially confirmed.
West Bengal will vote in two phases on April 23 and April 29 for its 294 Assembly seats, with the first phase covering 152 constituencies. Soren’s campaign will take place just days before the first phase, potentially influencing voter sentiment in key areas. It remains unclear whether he will return for campaigning during the second phase as the election battle intensifies.
