In a major enforcement action ahead of elections, nearly ₹25 lakh in cash was recovered during a naka checking operation in the Ballygunge area of Kolkata. The seizure was made by the South-East Division of the Kolkata Police as part of intensified surveillance against illegal cash movement.
Police intercepted a suspicious vehicle at the junction of Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue and Gurusaday Dutta Road after noticing irregular movement. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered a large sum of cash hidden inside, leading to immediate seizure and questioning of those involved.
Following the recovery, officials from the Income Tax Department were informed and reached the spot to examine the source and legitimacy of the money. Initial investigation suggests that the cash may be linked to attempts at unaccounted financial movement during the election period.
Authorities have launched a detailed probe to determine whether the seized amount is part of a larger network involved in black money circulation or electoral influence. The incident has added to heightened security measures across Kolkata, where multiple naka checks are being conducted under Election Commission directives.
