Former Chinsurah MLA Asit Mazumdar has been hospitalised just days before the Assembly elections after his health condition deteriorated. He was admitted to a private nursing home in Chinsurah on Friday following complaints of illness.
According to doctors, Mazumdar is suffering from a stomach infection along with existing health complications, including diabetes. He is currently under medical supervision and has been advised complete rest, making his return to the campaign trail unlikely at this stage.
Although he was not renominated this election, Mazumdar had been actively campaigning in support of Debangshu Bhattacharya, the Trinamool Congress candidate for the Chinsurah seat. Despite initial dissatisfaction over not receiving the ticket, he had participated in multiple campaign events in recent days and remained politically active until his sudden illness.
His hospitalisation so close to polling has added a new dimension to the political atmosphere in the constituency, particularly given his continued involvement in campaign efforts and recent public appearances.
