“After the 5th, we will remove police stations,” Madan Mitra’s remark sparks row; BJP calls it “theatrics”

Ahead of the second phase of voting in West Bengal, political tensions escalated after a video surfaced in which TMC leader Madan Mitra is heard making controversial remarks about police stations and law enforcement presence. The statement quickly triggered a sharp reaction from the BJP, which accused the ruling party of promoting intimidation during the election period.

In the same political climate, other TMC leaders, including Tapas Chatterjee, were also seen making strong remarks in separate instances, further intensifying the controversy. The opposition BJP has claimed that such statements reflect an atmosphere of rising confrontation and law-and-order concerns in the run-up to polling.

Madan Mitra, speaking in a public interaction where police and central forces were present, was heard expressing anger over administrative actions and alleging bias. His comments included references to removing police stations after the election phase and resistance against restrictions on party activities, which have now become a major point of political debate.

In another incident in East Burdwan’s Nadanghat area, clashes broke out between BJP and TMC workers following allegations of stone-pelting during a political rally. TMC candidate Swapan Debnath criticised the role of central forces, alleging inaction during violence, while BJP leaders accused the ruling party of creating unrest and misrepresenting ground situations.

Reacting to the developments, BJP state president Shamik Bhattacharya dismissed the remarks made by TMC leaders, calling them exaggerated political theatrics ahead of elections. He further stated that such statements indicate political desperation rather than genuine administrative concerns.
