Bus rams into scooter in Medinipur; Mother critical, son injured

A serious road accident was reported on National Highway 116 in the Mecheda area under Kolaghat police station in East Medinipur district, leaving a mother and her son critically injured. The incident occurred when a bus travelling towards Mecheda rammed into their scooter from behind with significant force.

According to eyewitness accounts, the impact of the collision was severe, throwing both riders onto the road. The scooter was reportedly dragged for some distance while trapped under the bus, causing extensive damage and panic among nearby commuters and local residents.

Police from Kolaghat station rushed to the spot after receiving information and rescued the injured duo, who were immediately shifted to a private nursing home in Mecheda. Medical officials confirmed that the mother’s condition remains critical, while the son is also undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.

Following the accident, angry locals staged a road blockade protest, demanding action against reckless driving on the highway. A large police force was deployed to control the situation, while the bus involved in the accident has been seized. Authorities confirmed that the driver fled the scene and efforts are underway to trace him.
