Trinamool demands court-monitored CBI probe into murder of Chandranath Rath

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has officially condemned the brutal murder of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who was gunned down in Madhyamgram on Wednesday night. In a surprising turn of events, Mamata Banerjee's party has demanded a court-monitored CBI investigation into the incident to ensure the real culprits are identified. Through its official social media handles, the TMC expressed its condolences while simultaneously highlighting the killing of three of its own party workers in recent post-poll violence.

The TMC leadership argued that the murder took place while the Model Code of Conduct was still in force, pointing toward a lapse in the security apparatus. By demanding a CBI probe, the party aims to counter allegations from BJP leaders like Kaustav Bagchi and Shamik Bhattacharya, who have directly accused the TMC top brass of orchestrating the hit. The TMC maintains that the violence is not one-sided, alleging that BJP-backed miscreants have also targeted their supporters over the last three days.

According to the details of the attack, Rath was ambushed in the Doharia area of Madhyamgram by bike-borne assailants who fired randomly at his vehicle. Rath sustained fatal injuries to his chest, abdomen, and head, and was declared dead upon arrival at Viva City Hospital. The driver of the car, who was also shot, remains in critical condition at a private hospital in Kolkata. The forensic team and local police are currently scanning the area for evidence, while a seized vehicle with a suspected fake number plate remains a key lead in the case.
