Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda on Sunday conducted an extensive inspection of Nabanna and adjoining areas ahead of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s first major administrative meeting scheduled for Monday. A large police deployment was seen around the state administrative headquarters as senior officers reviewed security arrangements and logistical preparations for the meeting.
According to sources, the new Bharatiya Janata Party government is expected to eventually shift operations to Mahakaran, but infrastructure preparations there are still incomplete. As a result, the new government’s first major administrative meeting will be held at the conference hall in Nabanna. During Sunday’s inspection, the Police Commissioner was accompanied by several senior Kolkata Police officers who assessed security measures in and around the administrative complex.
The administrative review comes shortly after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held meetings with top state officials following his oath-taking ceremony. The Chief Minister met the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Director General of Police, and Kolkata Police Commissioner to discuss administrative and law-and-order matters. Major reshuffles within Kolkata Police were also carried out on Sunday following those discussions.
Preparations are underway for Monday’s high-level meeting, where the Chief Minister is expected to interact with senior police officials, including the Director General of Police, Police Commissioner, DIG-rank officers, and Inspector General-rank officers. Tight security arrangements have been implemented across Nabanna and surrounding areas in Howrah ahead of the meeting.
Police and administrative sources indicated that the new government is preparing to adopt a strict approach toward organised crime and criminal activities across the state. Authorities are reportedly preparing lists of known criminals and fugitives, while discussions are underway regarding the formation of a special force to target criminal networks. Border districts including Murshidabad, Malda, and North 24 Parganas have reportedly been identified as priority areas for intensified action against smuggling and other illegal activities.
