The Bengal government has announced several major welfare and administrative decisions, including the complete waiver of fees for government job applications and the continuation of free travel for women on government buses. The government also stated that online and offline application systems will be introduced for the Annapurna Yojana, under which eligible beneficiaries will receive ₹3,000, while illegal immigrants will not be covered under the scheme. A separate card system for women availing free bus travel will be implemented at a later stage.
The government further announced that fish will be served for ₹5 at Maa Canteens on two days every week. Public welfare camps are scheduled to be held between June 12 and June 20, including weekday camps on June 15, 16, and 17. The “One Tree in the Name of Mother” campaign will begin on June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day. The government also announced that World Yoga Day on June 21 will be celebrated on a large scale with participation from the AYUSH Department, Sports Department, schools, police, NCC, and various organizations. Additionally, the existing “Sarasari” helpline service will be discontinued and replaced with a new platform titled “Speak to Your Government,” a name reportedly suggested by Rajya Sabha MP Shamik Bhattacharya.
