Filmmaker Anik Dutta has passed away after reportedly falling from a high-rise residential building in the Gariahat area of Kolkata. According to reports, he fell from the terrace of the building and was later taken to a hospital in Dhakuria, where he died. The incident has triggered shock within the Bengali film industry and among audiences familiar with his work.
Reports stated that Anik Dutta had been suffering from health-related issues for the past few years and regularly required nebulizer support. He had reportedly been living separately from his wife for a considerable period, while his daughter studies outside Kolkata. Further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been officially disclosed.
Anik Dutta was known for directing several Bengali films, including Bhooter Bhabishyat and Aschorjyo Prodeep. Last year, his film Joto Kando Kolkatatei was released. His films had earned attention for their storytelling and distinct treatment of contemporary Bengali cinema themes.
