Adani Group back in Bengal? Karan Adani meets CM Suvendu at Nabanna

A meeting between Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), was held at Nabanna on Wednesday, with discussions reportedly focusing on infrastructure development, power generation, logistics networks and greenfield road projects in West Bengal. The interaction comes as the state government continues efforts to attract private investment and promote industrial development following the recent change in administration.

According to sources, the discussions covered infrastructure expansion, logistics connectivity, industrial support services and long-term investment opportunities in the state. The government has repeatedly stated its intention to create a transparent and investment-friendly environment, and the meeting is being viewed as part of those efforts. Neither the state government nor the Adani Group announced any specific project or investment commitment after the discussions.

Logistics and transportation are understood to have featured prominently during the meeting. West Bengal’s geographical position as a gateway to northeastern India and neighbouring countries was also discussed in the context of trade and connectivity. Sources indicated that opportunities related to logistics hubs and transportation infrastructure were among the areas explored during the talks.

The meeting is notable in light of the Adani Group’s earlier involvement in the proposed Tajpur deep-sea port project. The group had secured the tender for the project during the previous administration, but the development did not proceed amid land-related, administrative and policy issues. The tender was later cancelled, and the group’s investment plans in the project did not move forward.

The renewed engagement between the state government and the Adani Group follows a broader push to encourage industrial and infrastructure development in West Bengal. Business observers have noted that investments in sectors such as ports, roads, logistics and power could support economic activity and employment generation. The discussions at Nabanna have drawn attention as industry stakeholders await any future announcements regarding projects or investment plans in the state.
