5 pro-Mamata MLAs meet CM Suvendu in Assembly, what did they discuss?

A high-profile political meeting took place in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Thursday as five prominent pro-Mamata Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLAs held a comprehensive discussion with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The delegation, which included Kunal Ghosh, Madan Mitra, Ashok Deb, Abdur Rahim Bakshi, and Shobhandev Chattopadhyay, requested an audience with the Chief Minister to address the escalating tensions surrounding the administrative restructuring of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's security detail. The meeting follows mounting protests from TMC workers outside her Kalighat residence after several long-serving security personnel were replaced.

The primary point of discussion centered on the removal of Mamata Banerjee's trusted personal security officers (PSOs), Swarup Goswami and Kusum Kumar Dwivedi, who have protected her for nearly two decades. While the state secretariat, Nabanna, maintained that she continues to receive full Z-plus security protocol comprising approximately 50 personnel, the visiting MLAs argued that replacing her trusted personal guards creates undue discomfort. They requested that the administration retain her original roster due to their long-term familiarity. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari reportedly listened to the delegation's arguments and provided an assurance that he would formally consider the matter.

Beyond the security row, the legislators utilized the meeting to deliberate on administrative matters inside the Assembly complex and broader civic issues. The delegation raised concerns regarding the allocation of designated rooms for party lawmakers within the Assembly building. Furthermore, they initiated a dialogue regarding the state's ongoing hawker eviction drives. The MLAs urged the Chief Minister to prioritize economic rehabilitation for the affected vendors before clearing public spaces, arguing that sudden evictions cause immediate unemployment.
