Congress workers block Ex-TMC Councilor Rehana Khatun from joining party at Bidhan Bhavan
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has approached the Calcutta High Court seeking protection following an alleged attack during a party meeting in Kaliganj, Nadia, on July 1. Permission was sought to file the petition before the court of Justice Saugata Bhattacharya, and the Court directed that the case be filed. Mahua alleged that while police were acting on the FIR lodged against her, the FIR filed by her was not receiving due attention, prompting her to seek judicial intervention.
According to the petition, the incident occurred during a Trinamool Congress meeting in Kaliganj, where a group of people gathered outside the party office carrying black flags and raised slogans against Mahua Moitra. She alleged that eggs, mud, and brinjals were thrown at the party office through the window while she was inside. Mahua also claimed that she and party workers were surrounded and prevented from leaving the venue. She shared videos of the incident on social media highlighting these allegations.
In a video shared after the incident, Mahua Moitra alleged that the police remained present but did not take action to disperse the crowd or respond to the alleged attack. She further claimed that those involved in the protest were BJP supporters. Subsequently, the Krishnanagar MP approached the Calcutta High Court by filing a petition seeking protection.
