West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held a high-level meeting with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Nabanna to discuss several developmental programs. The bilateral talks centered around major central welfare schemes, including the Awas Yojana, Gram Sadak Yojana, and the 125 days of work initiative. Following the meeting, the Chief Minister and the Union Minister addressed a joint press conference detailing a broad spectrum of state-level issues ranging from agriculture-specific strategies for regions like Darjeeling, Purulia, and Jhargram, to the socio-economic empowerment of 80 lakh women and marginalized communities.
During the press conference, Chief Minister Adhikari announced that the Central Government has allocated financial funding for the construction of 1 lakh houses in Bengal under the housing scheme. Additionally, an allocation of ₹1,000 crore has been sanctioned under the Gram Sadak Yojana to facilitate the development of 2,400 kilometers of rural roads. The Chief Minister also highlighted new administrative initiatives focused on boosting local floriculture and betel leaf cultivation, alongside revealing that 2 crore 56 lakh beneficiaries have been identified for the 125 days of work program in West Bengal.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed satisfaction with the progress and citizen-centric approach of the state's new government. Criticizing the previous state administration for its lack of cooperation and overall non-performance, Chouhan emphasized that the present governing body would accelerate development for the citizens of West Bengal. The Union Minister reiterated the Government of India's commitment to standing by women's self-help groups and ensuring there would be zero procedural delays in providing the first batch of 1 lakh houses under the Awas Yojana.
