Fresh FIR against Abhishek Banerjee over "return with interest in 2031" remark

Abhishek Banerjee faces renewed legal challenges following a fresh complaint registered against him at the Bidhannagar Commissionerate's Cyber Crime Department. The First Information Report (FIR) was filed by an individual named Rajiv Sarkar under multiple statutory provisions, alleging that public statements made by the leader constituted explicit threats and inflammatory conduct. Police authorities have initiated a preliminary investigation and commenced examination of the video footage containing the controversial remarks.

The complaint stems from recent public statements delivered by Banerjee following administrative action taken against his Amtala office over alleged unauthorized construction. Facing reporters after bulldozers were deployed at the site, Banerjee strongly criticized the action, asserting that the property possessed all requisite legal documentation and planning approvals. During his address, he stated that actions lead to reactions and warned that he would return everything "with interest in 2031." The complainant contends that this remark functioned as an explicit threat directed at political opponents and administrative authorities.

This new legal proceeding adds to a growing list of complaints and ongoing investigations involving the Trinamool leader across various police stations in the state. Banerjee has previously faced questioning by state police and investigative agencies in connection with separate allegations, including recruitment irregularities and election-related statements. The Bidhannagar Cyber Crime police are currently evaluating the legal merits of the complaint to determine further action.
