Former CBI special director to be West Bengal CM's security advisor

Rupak Kumar Dutta, former Director General of Police in Karnataka and former Special Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been appointed as the Advisor to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal.

The appointment was approved by Governor C V Anand Bose, as stated in a notification issued on Thursday. According to the notification, Dutta, a 1981 batch IPS officer, will serve in this role for a period of two years. He is currently working as an advisor in the Home Department of West Bengal.

In addition to his new role, Dutta was previously entrusted with handling police welfare, including areas such as police housing, health, and retirement benefits. His appointment as the Advisor to the Chief Minister on security and law and order, including border areas, highlights the government's focus on strengthening these aspects under Dutta's expertise.

The appointment of Rupak Kumar Dutta, who brings significant experience and knowledge in the field of law enforcement, is expected to contribute to maintaining security and ensuring effective law and order in West Bengal, including its border regions.
