No entry in Kolkata-North 24 Pgs for Jay Prakash Majumdar as he gets conditional bail

The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Jay Prakash Majumdar, exactly one month after his arrest in a high-profile house grabbing case. The legal relief was ordered by Justice Ajay Kumar Mukherjee after a series of procedural complications. The bail application was originally assigned to the bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh, who recused himself from the proceedings at the last moment citing personal reasons, causing the case to be reallocated for its final disposal.

Majumdar was initially arrested by the Bidhannagar North Police Station on the afternoon of June 3 from the Salt Lake area following a formal complaint filed by the property owner. The TMC leader was accused of illegally occupying a local residence for 12 years and allegedly issuing threats of violence to the owner whenever rent was demanded. The situation had escalated when area residents staged furious public protests against Majumdar, surrounding him and throwing eggs at him when the police brought him back to the Salt Lake residence to conduct a search operation.

While granting the bail, the High Court imposed a set of strict operational conditions to prevent any interference with the ongoing legal process. Majumdar has been explicitly ordered to fully cooperate with the police investigators whenever summoned. Furthermore, the court has placed strict territorial restrictions on his movement, completely barring him from traveling abroad, and forbidding him from entering the jurisdictions of Kolkata and the North 24 Parganas district until further notice.
